Los Angeles Community Builders, Inc. (LACBI)

Many people throughout the City need help. In the San Fernando Valley, where The Church On The Way is based, 35 percent of households have incomes below the national poverty level.

Los Angeles Community Builders, Inc. (LACBI), a nonprofit faith-based, community-service agency in partnership with The Church On The Way, is committed to developing programs that meet the practical needs of people living in Los Angeles.

Since its inception, LACBI has developed programs to help at-risk youth and children and to assist people in meeting their essential needs. LACBI also partners with rescue missions and other agencies to help with emergency shelter and housing needs, plus providing both a job search and business development training. In addition to these programs, LACBI conducts a number of special events every year; some of these including providing over 1,000 children with school supplies at an annual Back-to-School Bash, serving more than 1,000 people with a hot Thanksgiving Day meal, and giving 10,000 frozen whole chickens and 6,000 toys to families at a Christmas outreach.

On a daily basis, LACBI meets the needs of students through Vision House, an after-school tutoring and mentoring program for those in grades 1 through 12. This program has helped over 300 students realize academic success and has helped them develop a dream for their future. With 66 percent of the graduating class of a local middle school failing last year, it was encouraging to know that every one of the students in Vision House from that particular school graduated—including one who became their Valedictorian!
